Electronic Data Capture Technology: the opportunities and challenges

A one-day scientific meeting for IT specialists

High quality data are essential to good statistical practice.  The availability of such data in a convenient format and a timely manner are important in the conduct of scientific research, and in the business sector.  In recent years electronic capture data technologies have become available.  These technologies include: personal digital assistants (PDAs), paper scanning devices, networked PCs, using thin client architecture and touch screens, and mobile phones. Within Malawi these technologies are being used by several organizations, others are piloting their use.

The Statistical Association of Malawi is pleased to announce this one day scientific meeting to take place in Lilongwe on Friday 13th February 2009, with support from the National Research Council of Malawi.  Speakers at the meeting will provide insights into a variety of electronic data capture systems and products in use in Malawi. Technical and strategic issues will be considered.  The meeting will not provide training in the use of any technology.

Selected stakeholders have been invited to participate in this meeting.  Others who are interested to participate in the meeting are invited to register by Friday 6th February.  The standard registration fee for each additional participant is K5,000.  Fees are reduced for members of the Association: K3,000 for full members and K4,000 for Associate and Student members.  Places are limited; payment of the registration fee will secure your place.
